MERV Rating

Definition

Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value — rates how well an air filter captures particles, from 1 to 16. Higher isn't always better; the filter must match your system.

Why this matters for your home

MERV rates a filter's ability to trap particles on a 1-to-16 scale for residential equipment — the higher the number, the finer the particles it captures. A MERV 8 handles everyday dust, while MERV 11–13 catches finer allergens and smoke particles.

Higher isn't automatically better: a filter too dense for your system restricts airflow, strains the blower, and can freeze the coil. We match filter MERV to what your specific equipment can actually pull air through, so you get cleaner air without sacrificing performance.
