Compressor

Definition

The heart of an AC or heat pump — it pressurizes refrigerant and moves it through the system. Replacing one is a major repair, which is why maintenance matters.

Why this matters for your home

The compressor lives in the outdoor condenser and does the hardest work in the system, pressurizing refrigerant so it can absorb heat indoors and reject it outside. Without it, an AC or heat pump can't move heat at all.

A compressor replacement is one of the most expensive HVAC repairs, so protecting it matters. Low refrigerant, dirty coils, and electrical faults all shorten its life — and all are caught early by routine maintenance. When one fails on an older system, we give you an honest repair-versus-replace number instead of just swapping the part.
